Meet Julia

Hi, I’m Julia.

I’m a mom of two, nurse, writer-in-progress, and NP student living in Grey Bruce.

The Village Care Collective was born from a very real need—not just mine, but one I know so many other parents feel too.

The truth is, I didn’t grow up with a built-in village. As a first-generation Canadian, I longed for grandparents down the street, for family dinners, for someone to scoop me up when things got hard. When I became a mom, that longing only deepened. We moved to Owen Sound hoping to be closer to family and finally build that kind of support; but sometimes, even with the best intentions, things don’t turn out the way you imagined. And that gap? It felt bigger than ever.

So now there's no extra hands at bedtime. Just me, my partner, and the daily chaos of raising small humans while trying to keep our heads above water.

Like so many of us, I kept waiting for help to appear. For someone to swoop in and offer a break, a meal, a moment of relief. But eventually I realized: the village isn’t coming. We have to build it ourselves.

I started The Village Care Collective to help parents find support that feels real, local, and rooted in trust—not just transactions. While I do my best to get to know the families and caregivers who join, this isn’t a vetted service or a formal agency. It’s a growing community built on shared values, mutual respect, and connection. My hope is that everyone here feels seen, supported, and a little less alone.

I also write about the messiness and magic of motherhood, marriage, grief, and growth on my Substack. If you want to get to know me beyond the Village project, I’d love to share a piece of that with you, see links below!

We’re all just doing our best. But we were never meant to do it alone.

Thanks for being here.
